Arnhem Land is a region that takes up a large part the north east of Australia’s Northern Territory. It is a huge area covering 91,000 square kilometres or roughly the same size as Portugal. Arnhem Land is one of the world’s last great wilderness areas. Its small population is predominantly Indigenous, whose traditional Aboriginal culture remains largely intact.
Where is Bodeidei Camp ?
Bodeidei Camp is located about 320 km north east of Katherine, which is the nearest urban centre. The closest community is Bulman-Weemol. There are several out stations in the surrounding area. The estimated population of this part of Central Arnhem Land is about 450.
Our area is on the boundary between cattle country and Arnhem Land. The region is a traditionnal country and a site of ceremonial significance. The community has connections to Maningrida and Ramingining to the north, Barunga and Beswick to the south-west and with people who speak Ngalkbon, Rembarrgan and Maeli.
